I would like to see this script Auto-Update itself, this would cut down on waiting for updates, bug fixes, etc. the script would automatically "call home" for latest versions / fixes every day or so and then automatically download and update itself.
Come on Manish...You can do it! |

Hi,
Actually I was thinking of this idea but then decided not to implement it.
The script installation will become more complicated. There will be a lot of manual work to be done like cron jobs setup, directory permissions, and many other things. If we decide to even automate these things, then script installation can only be done on a server with root previlages which mean dedicated server hosting.
In a shared hosting environment, auto update feature is not possible. The maximum that can be done is notify the owner in the adminarea that updates are available!!!
Regards
Manish |

If you are not using a Dedicated ISP, you are courting disaster!
I use a Dedicated ISP for all my sites. I like the security in the knowledge that it is less likely to go down. With my host the cost of hosting and having a dedicated ISP is the same as most other host providers charge for regular hosting. I even switched my very first site to this host because I wanted to change the way the site functioned using a program written in PHP and their (the old host) MYSQL would not run the program, as they wereusing a third party MYSQL host. After I switched the program was up and running in a few minutes.
In short. I wish there was a way around this problem. |

Hi,
I meant a dedicated server. A server which hosts your website and no other. You have root previlages to the machine and you pay rent for (or own) the hardware.
Cheers!
